What is Mold?
Mold is a type of fungus that consists of small organisms found almost everywhere. They can be black, white, orange, green, or purple. Molds thrive on moisture and reproduce by means of tiny, lightweight spores that travel through the air. Molds need moisture to grow, so you’re most likely to see mold in damp places such as bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, basements, and crawl spaces.
Is Mold Harmful?
In some cases, mold in your home or office can make you sick, especially if you have allergies or asthma. Mold exposure can irritate your eyes, skin, nose, throat, and lungs.  When mold is growing on a surface, spores can be released into the air where they can be easily inhaled. If you’re sensitive to mold and inhale a large number of spores, you could experience health problems.

Do you suspect that you have a mold problem in your home or office?
If you are experiencing an allergen response (runny nose, red eyes, headaches, etc.) from suspect exposure to mold, Red Cedar can help. We will inspect the structure, interview the occupants, and complete sampling and data (temperature, relative humidity) collection to assess the air quality within the Building. Red Cedar will help to determine if the symptoms you are experiencing may be due to mold growth and will help form a plan to fix the problem.Â
Bulk/Physical Sampling
Bulk sample collection for mold is completed by collecting a physical sample with a combination of swabs or tape lifts to validate the visually identifiable species. This sampling is completed after a full visual assessment is performed and temperature and humidity levels are assessed. With this information, we can develop a sampling plan specifically designed for your project.Â
Air Sampling
Air sampling is most often completed inside and outside of the Building to provide a measurement of airborne spore levels and to help determine the extent and severity of contamination. Surprisingly, mold spore levels will vary greatly within different rooms in the same building and on the same air handling system. Red Cedar collects multiple samples from within each building to assist in determining spore levels and to assess local variations in air quality in your building.Â
